Ivan Xi, a co-founder and former chief executive of Google, was one of the first to announce his support for marriage equality.

The company’s first executive, Sundar Pichai, is seen as a leader on diversity issues.

The news follows Google’s decision to offer a wider definition of gender roles in its workplace, and an employee-outcry about how many white faces are on its leadership team.

Google had to pull the ads as it was violating the terms of its ad deal with Viacom, but the company made the move due to “unhealthy levels of intermixing” in its workforce when Ms Mayer took over.

Ms Mayer has since apologised for comments attributed to her, while the head of Google’s diversity team, Danielle Brown, resigned last week.

And Microsoft has dropped a line of underwear which was seen as discriminatory against gay and transgender people.

The company’s diversity boss, Paul Mayberry, tweeted that the line – called Microsoft “is for everyone” – was part of “our broader commitment to inclusion”.

It is up to brands to decide whether to remove the terms of their advertisements.

The advertverts appear to be part of a wider, voluntary campaign to encourage people to marry earlier and to encourage greater female participation in the workforce.

However the research suggested that those who see their partners having children later are likely to have a low tolerance for discrimination and more likely to report discrimination themselves.
